Bust Of A Berber Man Wearing A Turban By Frederic Goldsheider
Artist: Frederic Goldshneider (1845-1897)
Small bust of an Oriental man wearing a turban, polychrome terracotta proof
publisher’s signature on the back, number 524 A 25, and the notation “reproduction reserved”
Superb patina
Frédéric Goldshider was born in 1845 in the Czech Republic and died in France in 1897
In 1894, he took over his father’s ceramics factory in Bohemia andmoved to Vienna to market porcelain trinkets and objects.
But it was his terracotta sculptures on the theme of Orientalism—very much in vogue at the time—that brought him success and fame.
Together with his sons, he founded other factories and branches throughout Europe and as far as the United States.
Many museums house his works.
Our piece is in perfect condition, never restored; a small piece of terracotta must have broken off inside the sculpture—you can hear it when you shake the bust.
This model probably dates from the 1890s
