Georges was the third son of the painter Camille Pissarro, who was his first teacher.
Manzana-Pissarro was influenced as much by Japanese prints as by Gauguin’s Tahitian and Martinican scenes, and developed a penchant for Orientalism that manifested itself in the use of gold, silver, and copper paint, with which he enhanced his watercolors of fish and birds.
Also interested in the applied arts, he studied the English Arts & Crafts movement in London. Drawing on all these influences and experiences, he brought to life his own unique, dreamlike style, which unfolds against backgrounds often composed of silver, gold, and bronze.
