Lamentation Over The Dead Christ - Francesco Rizzo Da Santacroce (1485–1545) Workshop

Artist: Atelier Francesco Rizzo De Santacroce (1485-1545)
"Lamentation over the Dead Christ"

Francesco Rizzo da Santacroce (S. Pellegrino 1485–Venice 1545) Workshop

Oil on canvas
Antique gilded frame

Canvas dimensions: 95 x 75 cm; frame dimensions: 110 x 88 cm

The painting, which has a powerful emotional impact, depicts with intense drama the famous scene of the three grieving Marys standing over the lifeless body of Christ, supported by Joseph of Arimathea.

The canvas exhibits all the characteristics of Venetian painting from the first half of the 16th century, particularly in the Venetian school.

The remarkable quality of the work, with evident influences from Bellini, leads us to attribute its authorship to the renowned workshop of Francesco Rizzo da Santacroce (Venice, 1485–1545), which specialized in religious subjects featuring multiple figures and “Holy Conversations.”

The protagonists of his paintings—portrayed in profile in static, solemn poses—are his signature stylistic feature.

The contrasting, typically Venetian hues in the various background colors are also characteristic of his works.

The painting is in excellent condition, with a sound paint layer and a fine, pleasing craquelure.

An old 19th-century door panel executed to the highest standards.

The splendid color scheme is softened by a beautiful patina of age.

The work is of the highest quality, and its excellent condition allows for a perfect viewing experience.

We issue a stamped and signed certificate of authenticity that guarantees the work’s period, provenance, and all its characteristics, drawn up by an antiquarian affiliated with FIMA (Italian Federation of Art Dealers).

Delivery in Italy and throughout Europe within 3 days of receiving the bank transfer.

Shipping is tracked and insured, and the piece is shipped in custom-made, carefully packed, shock-resistant wooden crates.
