Pair of Louis-Philippe period chairs stamped “BALNY”

Pair of Louis-Philippe period chairs with mahogany and mahogany veneer frames.
The backrest is slightly sloped and features three openwork bands.
The trapezoidal seat rests on knee-shaped front legs and Etruscan-style rear legs.
The chair is upholstered in a beige and pink fabric with geometric and floral patterns, in good condition. Slight wear and tear, with reinforcements at the waistband. The joinery is tight.

Located in the cabinetmakers’ district of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, this workshop supplied the royal palaces and government ministries beginning in the Restoration era.
Renowned for its high-quality furniture during the reign of Louis-Philippe and the Second Empire, Maison Balny was awarded several silver medals at the Paris World’s Fairs (1878 and 1889).
Several of their chairs are preserved in the collections of the Mobilier National.
