Rare Art Nouveau-era (circa 1890–1895) artistic glass vase with a poppy design by Emile Gallé in Nancy.
Acid-etched decoration, worked with a grinding wheel and entirely hammered in shades of pink and red, with inclusions of powders and metallic oxides interspersed in shades of blue and orange. A thin green glass plaque is interspersed beneath a poppy. It is signed with a wheel under the vase "Emile Gallé Ft (for Fécit)" with a wheel-engraved poppy flower in the center.
This vase was photographed for the book *L’Art du Verre en France* by Janine Bloch-Dermant, published in 1974, page 111 (see photo).
This is an exceptional piece, likely created by Emile Gallé (signed “fécit” = “made” in Latin).
Height: 17 cm. Diameter: 8 cm. Very good condition. No cracks, no chips, no restoration.
