A very beautiful Art Nouveau bowl made of iridescent glass, attributed to the Loetz glassworks, set in an elegant gilded brass mount.

The bowl, with a dynamic quadrangular shape and raised edges, features a remarkable iridescent decoration with shifting shades of green, violet, purple, red, and yellow, which appears particularly luminous depending on the lighting. The glasswork, animated by fine undulations, is characteristic of the decorative innovations of the Art Nouveau period.

It rests on a substantial gilded brass base with four legs, adorned with stylized geometric motifs. Delicate ties run up the length of the glassware and end in small plant motifs. The openwork elements of the mount reinforce the piece’s distinctly Art Nouveau / Secession character.

The Johann Loetz Witwe factory was located in Bohemia, in what is now the Czech Republic. Loetz pieces often feature iridescent metallic hues—purple, green, blue, red, and gold—exactly the kind of effect seen on your glass.
