Important Carved Walnut Cylinder Desk – Louis XV Period – 18th Century
A very beautiful and impressive Louis XV-period walnut cylinder desk, 18th century, featuring a dynamic design and rich carved decoration characteristic of the Rocaille style.
The lower section rests on four curved legs and features two side cabinets opening with molded and carved doors. In the center, a drawer sits above the space between the legs.
The desk section is enclosed by a substantial, curved cylinder, richly molded. When opened, it reveals a spacious work surface equipped with eight small drawers, arranged on either side.
The upper section serves as a bookcase with two side doors framing a central niche. The entire piece is crowned by a remarkable, dynamic pediment, adorned with a large carved seashell, scrollwork, and foliage motifs, in the true Louis XV style.
The various doors are decorated with scalloped panels embellished with delicate carved floral motifs. Brass keyholes and hardware.
The interior compartments are lined with cream-colored damask fabric.
A striking piece of furniture with impressive proportions, retaining a beautiful, warm antique patina.
