Inlaid Sloping-top Desk – Louis XV Period

An elegant Louis XV-era sloping desk featuring geometric marquetry in a curled pattern of precious woods. Its curved front, resting on four arched legs topped with refined bronze feet, perfectly exemplifies the Rococo style of the 18th century.

The drop-down top, adorned with superb diamond-patterned marquetry and a central medallion featuring floral decoration, opens to reveal a meticulously crafted interior. It consists of four small drawers, storage compartments, and a veneered writing shelf, offering a workspace that is as practical as it is elegant.

The front features five drawers: two small upper drawers, a narrow central drawer, and two large lower drawers. The lock plates and finely chiseled bronze handles highlight the quality of the cabinetmaking.

The piece is crafted from a remarkable veneer of rosewood, violetwood, and other precious woods, forming a geometric marquetry of great finesse. The sides are also inlaid, and the original bronze fittings add an extra touch of refinement.
