Rare Pair Of Mennecy Soft-porcelain Pedestals From The 18th Century
Pair of soft-paste porcelain pedestals from Mennecy—18th century
A rare pair of small, faceted soft-paste porcelain pedestals from Mennecy, dating from the 18th century. [1]
Octagonal in shape with a flared, stepped design, these pieces feature the milky, translucent glaze so characteristic of the famous manufactory under the patronage of the Duke of Villeroy.
Each pedestal displays a charming floral design painted in naturalistic style on all four sides. They showcase the fine craftsmanship and purple hues typical of the Mennecy style.
Historically, these period pieces served as decorative bases for small figurines or table cups.
• The letters “DV” (Villeroy) are stamped in relief on the underside of the base. Pieces appraised by Jean-Gabriel Peyre, a leading certified expert in antique ceramics.
• Historical provenance: sold at the prestigious “CERAMIXTE” public auction conducted by Art Valorem at the Hôtel Drouot on Friday, April 6, 2018 (Lot 40)
• In good overall condition with superbly fresh colors. Note: a minor chip on the base of one of the stands, entirely consistent with the age and history of these pieces. No major cracks or restorations to report.
