Recueil des historiens des Gaules et de la France

The Recueil des historiens des Gaules et de la France, abbreviated to Histor. de Fr, is a compilation of sources related to French history. It was initiated in 1738 by Martin Bouquet, a Benedictine monk from Saint-Maur, and continued with interruptions until 1904, when volume 24 was published. It continues today in the form of publications of financial documents supervised by the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres.

In 1717, Chancellor D'Aguesseau asked the Congrégation des bénédictins de Saint-Maur, headed by Denis de Sainte-Marthe, to put the work back on the drawing board. Dom Bouquet was entrusted with the task, and published the first eight volumes between 1738 and 1752. The next five volumes were prepared by the Audiquier brothers, Dom Poirier, Dom Précieux, Dom Housseau, Dom Clément and Dom Brial between 1757 and 1786. The Revolution interrupted the work, which was not resumed until 1806, when the same dom Brial began work on the next six volumes, which were published until his death in 1833[m
.The work was interrupted again until 1840, when the Académie des Inscriptions et des Belles-Lettres took over. Pierre Daunou, Joseph Naudet, Joseph-Daniel Guigniaut, Léopold Delisle and Joseph-Natalis de Wailly succeeded one another until 1904, when volume 24 was published, ending the period linked to Saint-Louis. The Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres now publishes financial documents concerning the following periods of history.

Here are 2 volumes published in 1749 - volume 6 and 7 - and constituting the Original Edition of these collections
