Louis XV Table With Vine-leaf Marquetry
A 19th-century Louis XV-style coffee table with shutters, featuring vine-leaf marquetry. Resting on four curved legs topped with enveloping gilded bronze feet, note that the outer surfaces of the legs are inlaid along their entire height with designs of vine leaves and bunches of grapes! The band, also inlaid, is scalloped and curved, incorporating a lockable drawer on the front. The tabletop, which follows the contours of the band, is curved; two folding panels allow the surface area to be expanded or reduced to save space. The proportions of this table make it suitable for use as a desk, with storage in the built-in drawer.
