Mbala Axe From The Congo, Early 20th Century
A traditional axe attributed to the Mbala people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, consisting of a long, carved wooden handle with a dark brown patina and a widely flared wrought-iron blade. The head of the handle features stylized carved decoration and geometric incisions. The blade, which is set transversely into the upper part of the handle, has a characteristic triangular shape.
