Lunda Axe – Congo / Angola – Late 19th Century
An axe attributed to the Lunda people of the Congo and Angola regions, with an iron blade and a finely carved wooden handle.
The upper part of the handle, which is widened and curved, is decorated on both sides with incised geometric patterns. Circular motifs outline the contours and are also found on the pommel at the base of the handle. The flared blade features a delicate decoration of circles and dots. The wood has a glossy dark brown patina.
