Mythological Scene, 135 X 107 Cm, Framed, Late 18th–early 19th Century
In the center, a female figure draped in white and red appears amid a procession of deities, nymphs, and fantastical beings. On the left, a group of figures dressed in 17th-century European fashion, including a man in black, appears to be witnessing this apparition.
This composition can be compared to depictions of the Nereid Galatea, the most famous of which is Raphael’s painting for the Villa Farnesina.
This oil on canvas shows signs of earlier restorations and repainting but has not been re-stretched.
The 19th-century gilded frame is a reused frame (not the original) and has also been restored.
