Edmond Paul Auguste Barbarroux, Toulon 1882–1946, “Provençal Landscape,” oil on panel, signed lower left, inscribed upper left. Dimensions: 38 x 45 cm (scratch on the signature).

Son of a draftsman at the Toulon arsenal, originally from Garéoult.
He studied under Frédéric Montenard and Louis Cauvin.
He first exhibited seascapes and landscapes at the Salon National des Beaux-Arts.
In 1903, he exhibited in Paris at the Colonial Exhibition, where the government acquired several of his works for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in Marseille at the International Exhibition, where he won a Grand Prize, He also won the Grand Prize at the International Exhibition in Lyon in 1904 and received a medal at the International Exhibition in Avignon in 1906; the government purchased two of his paintings: “Le Cannet du Luc” and “La Vieille Garde.”
He was frequently exempt from competition or awarded prizes at various exhibitions in Paris and throughout the provinces, including Hyères, Valence, Bordeaux, Toulon, and Bastia.
From 1907 to 1939, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he became a member, presenting the following works: “Madrague au Levant” (1926), “Coup de mistral en Méditerranée” (1928), "Last Rays Under the Pesquiers, Hyères" (1934), "August Light" (1936), and "The Estérel and Belgentier Valley" (1939)."
He taught in Toulon at the École Rouvière and the École des Beaux-Arts, where he served as director in 1930, succeeding Gabriel Amoretti,
On October 2, 1924, he was appointed Official Painter to the Navy, and in 1931, he was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor.
He died in Toulon on June 12, 1948.
Although he had since been unjustly forgotten, a retrospective exhibition of his works was held at the Maison des jeunes et de la Culture in his hometown in 1974.
