Birth of Pop Art: Ruscha is known for his paintings incorporating words and phrases, and for his numerous artist's books, which are linked to both the Pop Art movement and Conceptual Art.[4] In 1962, Ruscha's work was included in the "New Painting of Common Objects" exhibition at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, alongside other artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Dowd, Phillip Hefferton, Joe Goode, Jim Dine, and Wayne Thiebaud. This exhibition is historically considered one of the first Pop Art exhibitions in the United States.[3]
