Wooden Bench Sculpted And Painted, Characterized By A Rich, Neoclassical Décor. XIXème
Carved and painted wooden bench featuring an elaborate decorative scheme of Neoclassical taste. The openwork backrest is composed of three principal medallions: two circular panels decorated with carved floral motifs and a larger central oval medallion with a cartouche and scrolling foliage.
The most distinctive feature is the pair of sculptural armrests terminating in carved and painted eagle heads, supported by shaped scroll brackets. The front apron is decorated with a repeating sequence of geometric and foliate motifs, while the turned and fluted front legs continue the original polychrome decoration.
The painted finish combines pale blue-grey, ivory and reddish-brown tones. The surface retains visible wear, abrasions, minor losses and age-related marks consistent with the history and use of the piece. The reverse has a simpler, darker finish.
A highly decorative piece with a strong architectural presence, suitable for a collection of decorative arts as well as for a classical or contemporary interior.
