19th-Century Carcel Lamp with an 18th-Century Qing Dynasty Chinese Porcelain Vase
A sublime and significant mechanical oil lamp, known as a “Carcel,” from the Napoleon III era (19th century), mounted on a rare 18th-century Qianlong-period Chinese porcelain vase
The body consists of an 18th-century East India Company baluster-shaped porcelain vase decorated with scenes of palaces and court figures within contoured cartouches, surrounded by orange-red geometric motifs and blue friezes.
Bronze mount: Richly adorned with gilded bronze in the Louis XV Rocaille style, featuring large, finely chiseled leaf-motif handles and a sculpted base housing the original Carcel mechanical movement
Complete with its frosted glass globe and clear glass chimney.
The Carcel mechanical movement is housed inside the base sold without the winding key
Total height: 82 cm
Height of the lamp without the glass tube: 49 cm
Width at the handles: 22 cm
The porcelain and bronze are in very good overall condition. The gilding has a superb patina. The mechanism has not been tested; the winding key is missing
