PATINATED BRONZE BUST OF THE EMPEROR HADRIAN
ITALY, 19TH CENTURY
Depicted in bust form, his head slightly turned to the left, the Emperor Hadrian is recognisable by his characteristic beard and curly hair. He is dressed in Roman armour in the antique style, adorned with a Medusa mask at the centre of the cuirass, and draped in a paludamentum falling over his left shoulder.
The bust rests on a gilt-bronze socle, itself supported by a cylindrical column in sea-green marble.
The whole is raised on a plinth in yellow Verona marble.
