Louis XVI-era Clock
Artist: Caillouet à Paris
A so-called “portico” clock in chiseled bronze gilded with mercury, with black and white marble.
The finial features an eagle with outstretched wings holding a thunderbolt; the sides are adorned with garlands on a pedestal featuring vases of flowers.
The movement is supported by pilasters on consoles and columns; the quadrangular base features a sculpted façade, panels with geometric motifs and rosettes; the base rests on glide feet.
The enameled dial, signed “Caillouet à Paris,” displays the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in increments of fifteen in Arabic numerals.
The string-wound movement is in working order.
