Pair Of Trumeaux Made Of Painted And Gilded Wood, Italy, 18th Century

A striking and elegant pair of large Italian trumeaux from the late 18th century, made of wood painted in shades of gray-green and cream, accented with gilding.
The highly architectural frames are adorned with gilded friezes, rosettes, and knotted laurel garlands, in the neoclassical style of the late 18th century.
The upper portion of each trumeau is adorned with a panel of wallpaper featuring an antique and Pompeian-inspired design, composed of arabesques, floral scrolls, figures, and fantastical animals arranged symmetrically around a central scene. The two compositions, though different, were designed as a pair and offer a particularly refined decorative scheme.
The lower section features a large rectangular mirror surrounded by fine gilded molding.
The piece as a whole displays a beautiful antique patina, with a particularly harmonious blend of gray-green and cream tones, gilding, and the delicate colors of the wallpaper.
