"very Old Stone With A Hole In It"
“Very ancient stone with a hole” : polished quartzite, approximately 10 cm in diameter and 3 cm thick, with a hole measuring 4 to 2.5 cm.
Signs of wear and missing pieces; date and origin unknown.
Doubts remain regarding the use of this artifact: is it a spindle whorl, the stone used to weigh down the spindle for spinning wool, or a puzzle piece thatwas once attached to a handle ?
I would lean toward the latter possibility, particularly because of itslarge size, but without any certainty.
In any case, the biconical drill hole attests to its great age, and the careful lenticular polishing indicates that it was aprecious object.
