18th-century Louis XVI Weekly Planner With Rosewood And Amaranth Wood Marquetry And Marble Inlay
Weekly chest—a Louis XVI-style chiffonier made of rosewood and amaranth, featuring 6 front drawers decorated with butterfly-wing marquetry, beveled side panels, finely chiseled gilded bronze ornamentation featuring laurel and oak wreaths on the lock openings and a large knot holding a laurel branch on the side panels, with a breccia marble top, dating from the 18th century.
This weekly chest is in good condition and of superb quality. It is doweled, as visible in the photos of the back.
Its classification as a “semainier” is only slightly affected by the presence of 6 drawers instead of the expected 7; this in no way detracts from its quality and elegance, which is superbly enhanced here by the use of the so-called “butterfly wing” motif that adorns the drawer fronts.
Please note: there are a few minor imperfections and signs of restoration on this piece, particularly on the sides; some restoration work on the veneer; a few light-colored wood strips are missing (also on the sides); micro-chips on the edges of the marble, scratches, and signs of age; please examine the detailed photos carefully.
