Small Oil Painting On Panel, Virgin And Child With Rosary, After Murillo, 19th Century
Small oil on panel depicting a Madonna holding the Infant Jesus on her lap, a copy after Murillo's famous painting "The Virgin of the Rosary*", in a giltwood frame, dating from the 19th century. This painting and its frame are in good overall condition. It should be noted that in this version, the painter did not include the rosary held by the child in the original painting. There are some scratches and signs of age, see photos. *The Virgin of the Rosary – or simply The Virgin and Child – is a painting by the Spanish painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, created between 1648 and 1650. This oil on canvas depicts the Madonna holding the Infant Jesus, a rosary in his hand, as he looks directly at the viewer from Mary's lap, who also gazes back at us. Part of the collections of the Louvre Museum in Paris, the work has been on loan to the Goya Museum in Castres, Tarn, since 1949.
