Large Polychrome Wood Sculpture Statue Saint Laurent Grill Cooks 17th Century

Large religious statue (103 cm) in polychrome carved wood representing Saint Lawrence* (patron saint of cooks and bakers) holding the grill of his martyr and the book of the Gospels in his left hand, from the 17th century. This statue is in good general condition and is of exceptional quality. Note: old worm holes, some cracks, losses and accidents on the wood, traces of restorations of use, wear of time, look carefully at the photos. * Saint Lawrence: Born in Aragon, near Huesca, Lawrence was a deacon of the Roman Church, whose property he administered. A victim of the persecution of Valerian, he was arrested at the same time as Pope Sixtus II, beheaded on August 6. Lawrence was tortured on a grill to reveal where he had hidden the treasure of the Church. He died on August 10, 258. To house his tomb, Emperor Constantine built the Basilica of Saint Lawrence Outside the Walls in Rome. Saint Lawrence is the patron saint of the poor, to whom he had distributed the treasures of the Church, and of bakers because of the instrument of his martyrdom. He is also the patron saint of deacons, firefighters, cooks, roasters, charcoal burners, roasters, librarians, archivists, and glassmakers.
