White Star Sapphire And Diamond Bangle Ring In Yellow Gold

750/°° yellow gold (18 KT, eagle-head hallmark) band ring, set with a large round star-shaped white sapphire in a cabochon cut.

The stone exhibits beautiful transparency with a very subtle pale pink hue. Depending on the nature and direction of the light, its appearance changes noticeably: soft and slightly milky under diffused light, the cabochon becomes particularly luminous when illuminated by more direct light.

It then reveals a remarkable six-ray asterism—an optical phenomenon characteristic of certain corundums—which appears under a point light source and moves across the surface of the cabochon along with the light. This characteristic explains the different appearances of the stone visible in the photographs, depending on whether it is viewed in diffused light or under a directed beam of light.

The design of the setting is entirely built around a dialogue between curves and radiating lines. The deeply domed sapphire is held in place by a generously contoured half-closet setting that follows the stone’s shape. It extends from a wide, domed band, giving the ring a supple, rounded silhouette.

On either side of the stone, the shoulders are punctuated by pointed motifs set with brilliant-cut diamonds. Their geometry subtly echoes the six rays of light emanating from the sapphire’s star: the most sparkling elements of the composition—asterism and diamonds—thus take on sharp, radiant lines, contrasting with the rounded volumes of the gold and the cabochon.

This masterful contrast between the softness of the forms and the brilliance of the points gives the ring a design that is both balanced and unique. Finally, the wide yellow gold band highlights the delicate hues of the sapphire and the whiteness of the diamonds.
