An elegant bronze bowl with a nuanced dark brown patina, resting on an Atlantean figure with fishtail legs—depicting either a Triton or Neptune—who holds a flared basin aloft with outstretched arms. The body of the basin is adorned with a high-relief scene depicting putti and tritons among reeds and aquatic plants, in the neo-classical style popular during the Second Empire. The upper rim is embellished with a frieze of leafy scrollwork. The piece rests on a hexagonal base with a gilded groove bearing the double signature in relief: CARÊME BORDEAUX (sculptor or patron) and GEORGEON FONDEUR.
