Belle époque "the Great Regattas Of Saint-malo–saint-servan" Early 20th-century Japanese-style Cotton Canvas

Artist: Malo-renault
This work on fabric is a textile panel reproducing the iconic Belle Époque poster titled Grandes Régates de Saint-Malo – Saint-Servan, created in 1896 by the French artist and engraver Malo-Renault (Émile Auguste Renault, 1870–1938).
The bay of Saint-Malo, featuring the silhouette of the pirate city’s ramparts, Fort National, and the Grand-Bé islet, as well as the sailboats participating in the regattas under a highly stylized cloudy sky. Two elegant Parisian women with Japanese features, dressed in Belle Époque attire (dresses with puffed sleeves and large hats), watch the race through a telescope, accompanied by a child standing at the railing. The mast flies the flag with a white cross and the Saint-Malo coat of arms (the ermine and the level/castle), accompanied by a red-and-yellow checkered pennant. A group of Breton women, also with Japanese-inspired features, in traditional attire, wearing their regional headdresses (headdresses from the Saint-Malo region / Ille-et-Vilaine).
A fascinating work because it captures the fascination with Japan through a French classic of the Belle Époque.
Some facial features are slightly blurred.
