Northern Italian School; Genre Scene With Peasant Women, Second Half 19th Century, Oil On Panel
Description
Northern Italian School
Genre scene with women of the people
Oil on panel
cm 57x71 (with frame)
The composition depicts two young women of the people (probably washerwomen, given the presence of the large bundle of laundry carried by the figure on the right) caught in a moment of everyday domestic life. In the foreground, the central figure, elegantly dressed in a gathered red-orange skirt and a light blue bodice, extends her hand towards a small hunting dog in a dynamic pose. In the background, the verticality of a majestic stone staircase accommodates two other reclining figures, a scenographic device that recalls the architectural capricci and views conceived by the Venetian masters of the eighteenth century.
