Patinated Bronze Sculpture Based On A Work By Clodion, Cast By Raingo Frères, Napoleon III Period
An elegant bronze group with an antique brown patina depicting a lively Bacchic scene featuring two Bacchantes, a young satyr, and a goat, captured in a remarkable whirling motion characteristic of Clodion’s style. The figures are richly rendered, with great finesse in the modeling of the drapery, hair, and facial expressions.
The group rests on a substantial molded base of red griotte marble, emphasizing the prestigious character of this decorative sculpture.
The bronze bears the signature “Clodion” as well as the foundry mark “Raingo Frères,” attesting to a high-quality Parisian edition produced during the second half of the 19th century.
