Painted Chest Dated 1704

A rare painted chest made of fir wood, dating from 1704, with wrought-iron hardware and polychrome floral decorations.

Description:

Antique fir wood chest, featuring a domed lid and substantial wrought-iron reinforcing hardware. The red background features floral decorations in shades of gray and the inscription of the date of manufacture, “1704,” in the upper right corner.
The front surface is dominated by a complex system of locks: in the center is a shaped plate complete with a period key, flanked on either side by a double lock with padlocks (not included).
The sides are fitted with iron handles for lifting, while the edge of the lid is finished with shaped metal elements.

Work performed on all our furniture:

– Structural restoration: replacement of small missing parts, filling of any cracks on the back panel, consolidation of deteriorated areas, inspection and repair of hardware.
– Thorough woodworm treatment.
– Cleaning and sanitization of the interior.
– Exterior finish with natural beeswax.
– Interior finish with shellac, a natural alcohol-based varnish.
