Still Life Painting, Flowers Vase Painting, Hydrangeas, Oil On Canvas, Antique Painting (qf775)

Artist: Henri-émile Rogerol (1877-1947)

The antique floral still life painting with hydrangeas and decorated vase presented here is an elegant French antique oil

painting on canvas dating from the early 1900s, in the Art Deco style.

The composition depicts a rich bouquet of hydrangeas in shades of white, pink, lilac and red, arranged inside a refined

decorated ceramic vase. Some cut flowers are also placed on the supporting surface, creating a pleasant natural effect and adding

depth to the composition. The textured and lively brushstrokes immediately convey the texture of the petals and the decorative

character of the hydrangea bouquet.

Antique paintings with flowers, floral still life signed lower right by Henri Rogerol, French portrait painter, landscape painter,

sculptor and ceramicist.

Henri-Émile Rogerol (1877-1947) was born in Douai and between 1892 and 1894 attended the Écoles académiques de Douai,

where he also studied sculpture and modelling under André Laoust. In 1894, he was admitted, among the highest-ranked candidates,

to the prestigious Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, where he remained for four years, further developing his training in

ceramics and decorative arts.

In 1898, he opened his own artistic ceramics workshop. His artistic activity ranged across painting, sculpture and decorative arts,

becoming part of the French artistic culture between the Belle Époque and the first half of the 20th century, with connections to

Art Nouveau and Art Deco.

The antique painting is presented in an original, period carved wooden frame known as Montparnasse, contemporary with the artwork.

The antique frame and oil painting have been carefully and professionally restored.
