Artist: Jane D’hazon De Saint-firmin (1873–1957)

The category Antique Paintings, Cat Portraits presents a charming oil on canvas painting depicting a still life with

three small curious kittens playing, dating to the late 19th century.

This is a refined antique portrait portraying a delicate domestic scene with cats, attributable to European artistic

production between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The artwork features three cats rendered with remarkable painterly sensitivity, characteristic of animalier painting,

set in an intimate and natural environment, with particular attention to expressions, details, and light effects.

The antique painting is signed in the lower right Jane d’Hazon, a French painter and writer.

Jane d’Hazon de Saint-Firmin (1873–1957) was born in Asnières (Hauts-de-Seine) into an aristocratic French family

and is commonly known as Jane d’Hazon.

She trained under artists such as Adolphe Yvon, Dominique Rozier, and Ulpiano Checa, a Spanish painter active in Paris.

She distinguished herself primarily as a painter of animal subjects, especially paintings featuring cats, which form a

significant part of her artistic output. She received an honourable mention in 1900, and several of her works are held in

important French museums.

The artwork is enhanced by a beautiful original gilded frame in genuine gold leaf, dating from and contemporary

with the 19th-century painting.

Both the antique painting and its frame have been professionally and carefully restored.

Late 19th-century antique painting. French antique art.
