Antique Woman Portrait Painting, Elegant Female Portrait, Oil On Canvas, XIX Century. (qr729)
The antique paintings category features a large oil painting on canvas depicting an elegant female portrait, typical of French Belle
Époque painting. Second half of the 19th century. French antiquity.
The young woman is portrayed half-length, wearing a dark, sober dress, enhanced by delicate chromatic accents on the bodice.
The face, finely shaped by light, emerges from a dark, softly blended background, creating a strong chiaroscuro contrast that enhances
the intense expression of the gaze.
The soft painterly handling and atmospheric rendering recall 19th-century realist and intimate painting.
The antique artwork is signed lower right F. Reynaud, a French painter active in the 19th-century French art scene.
François Reynaud (1825–1909) was born in Marseille and studied under Augustin Aubert and Émile Loubon.
From 1848, he regularly exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, the most important official exhibition in France at the time.
He received a medal in 1867 and a bronze medal in 1889 at the Exposition Universelle.
Many of his works are held in museums including Aix-en-Provence, Pontoise and Reims.
The painting is set in a finely carved original gilded frame, enhancing its historical and decorative value.
Both the frame and the oil painting have been professionally and carefully restored.
