Louis XVI Style Mirror Gilded Carved Wood 18th 19th Centuries Doves Allegory Of Love Trumeau

Stunning Louis XVI style pediment mirror, made of carved and gilded wood, late 18th or 19th century.

Overall dimensions:
112 cm (height) x 55 cm (width)

Carved wood: Unlike most pieces from this period, which incorporate stucco moldings, this mirror is entirely carved from a solid block of wood. This remarkable craftsmanship is evident in the delicate openwork of the pediment.

Original mercury mirror: The mirror features its authentic mercury-coated surface, offering an inimitable depth of reflection and the unique charm of antique mirrors.

The openwork pediment is topped with a ribbon bow and features a central medallion with a sea-green background depicting an allegory of Love (two doves carved in relief on a quiver and its arrows).

The upper uprights are adorned with superb cascades of finely carved laurel garlands.

The base rests on two corbels carved with acanthus leaves.

Style: Louis XVI

Period: late 18th or 19th century

Materials: 100% Carved wood (no stucco)

mercury glass and original gold leaf gilding (the red primer coat is visible in places beneath surface wear).

Condition: good condition, with minimal imperfections and cracks normal for its age. Superb patina of age on the gold leaf gilding with slight, normal wear associated with age. The mercury glaze is well-preserved and retains its authentic charm (slight sparkles and natural oxidation spots on the tin).

The piece is sound, stable, and highly decorative.
