Decorated Chinese Cachepot, 20th Century, With A Wooden Base
A large and striking circular Chinese ceramic planter, richly decorated in polychrome.
The surface is divided into large panels and ornamental bands, featuring particularly elaborate decoration. The main scenes depict moments of daily life and settings in the traditional Chinese style, featuring elegant figures in period attire set against refined architectural and landscape backdrops. Notable are figures engaged in various activities, set in pavilions, terraces, and gardens, with finely painted architecture, vegetation, and ornamental details.
Alongside the scenes featuring figures are large-scale naturalistic and artistic compositions, including birds, butterflies, flowers, plants, and floral arrangements, rendered in a vibrant palette of pink, green, turquoise, red, and blue. Of particular interest is the interior decoration, which depicts goldfish immersed among aquatic elements and plants, creating a very lively effect.
The various scenes are framed by elaborate ornamental borders featuring floral motifs, arabesques, and decorative panels, all enriched with gilding.
The piece comes complete with its impressive molded wooden base, featuring curved elements and supporting feet, which further enhances its visual impact.
On the bottom is a red stamp in Chinese characters, indicating 20th-century Chinese production intended for the Western market as well.
