"road In The Creuse" By Paul Rue (1866–1954)

Artist: Paul Rue ( 1866 - 1954 )

Paul Rue (1866–1954)

Painter of the Crozant School

Paul Rue’s favorite subjects were the rural people of the Creuse, Corrèze, and Berry regions, from the Vallée Noire to the Brenne, including the Châteauroux area.
He depicted farmworkers and lumberjacks. He was greatly influenced by the work of Fernand Maillaud, and frost, mist, snow, and melancholic atmospheres permeate his work.

Also a poet and illustrator, he was naturally chosen to create the 10 small paintings for *Contes de la Limousine*.

Works by Paul Rue are notably housed at the Bertrand Museum in Châteauroux, the Museum of La Châtre, and the Hôtel de la Préfecture, the residence of the prefects of the Indre department.

Oil on canvas-lined board, signed lower right and titled “route en Creuse” in pencil on the back.
