18th-century Bronze Bust Of Admiral De Tourville
Finely chiseled bronze bust with a black patina, depicting the Count of TURVILLE, Vice Admiral and Marshal of France (1642–1701).
Mounted on a column of royal red marble, with a gilded bronze frame (added later).
Anne Hilarion de COSTENTIN (Count de TURVILLE) was inducted into the Order of Jerusalem in Malta at the age of four. He was appointed a Councilor of State by Louis XIII and took command of the Normandie in 1640. He later served as chamberlain to the Prince of Condé. He was named Vice Admiral of the Levant in 1689, one year after the death of the Grand Duquesne. He was subsequently made Marshal of France at the end of the 17th century and died in Paris in 1701 at the age of 58.
