A polychrome glazed porcelain sculpture depicting a parrot. Signed on the reverse with the mark of the Karl Ens Manufactory—Saxony: a windmill with the initials E N S.
Friedrich Karl Ens (1802–1865), a renowned artist in porcelain field in Thuringia, founded the factory that bears his name in 1899. The factory enjoyed immense success at the very end of the 19th century during the Art Nouveau period and specialized in creating animal sculptures. Our piece, typical of the Art Nouveau style, is in keeping with the spirit of that period.
