18th-century Tortoiseshell And Fine Gold Box
Round box made of tortoiseshell and 18K yellow and rose gold.
The lid is adorned with a painted medallion-shaped miniature depicting a bust of Marie-Louise de Brachet de Floressac, Countess of Reclesne (1767–1853); her face, with expressive brown eyes and a shy smile, is framed by a profusion of powder-gray hair falling in curls over her shoulders.
She is dressed in a gray, silky gown with a deep neckline, dotted with white stripes that shimmer, and finished with a large draped bow.
French work from the late 18th century.
Miniature by Mathis (1786–1803), signed at the bottom on the right side.
