Head Of A Goddess Wearing A Tall Headdress – Cypriot Type From Kition

Fragment of an ancient terracotta figurine depicting a female head viewed from the front, likely a deity.
The face, with stylized and elongated features, is topped by a remarkable, tall ceremonial headdress, arranged in several tiers and richly decorated. This headdress bears a resemblance to the polos or kalathos worn by female deities in the Cypriot world.

Due to its frontal orientation, the treatment of the face, and especially the prominence of the headdress, this head shows interesting parallels with the Cypriot female figurines known as the “Kition type,” which are particularly well-known from examples preserved in major archaeological collections.

Cypriot or Cypro-Phoenician art, in the style of Kition productions. Classical to Hellenistic period, probably 4th–3rd century B.C.
