Pair Of Carafes With Large Diamonds - Baccarat, Restoration Period
Pair of cut crystal decanters attributed to the Baccarat manufacture, made during the Restoration period. The body adopts an ovoid shape entirely covered with a cut known as "à gros diamants", composed of deeply hollowed diamond-shaped facets that capture and diffuse light in a geometric play characteristic of the first half of the XIXᵉ century.
The neck is punctuated by several registers of superimposed cuts and receives a faceted, point-cut stopper, echoing the decorative vocabulary of the set. This production is in line with the research carried out by French crystal makers in the aftermath of the Empire, a period during which crystal cutting took center stage in the ornamentation of tableware.
It should be remembered that Baccarat productions from the first XIXᵉ century were generally unsigned. The systematic marking of pieces by the factory only came later, which explains the absence of signatures on examples from this period. Attribution is thus based on the characteristics of the size, shapes and models known to the crystal factory.
