Pair Of Baccarat Decanters - “djeddah” Model – Engraved And Gilded Crystal – Circa 1946
An elegant and rare pair of Baccarat crystal carafes, “Djeddah” model, dating from the 1940s, circa 1946.
These remarkable carafes feature a particularly refined, flattened shape, enlivened on the sides by flowing panels and topped with their original crystal stoppers, cut to extend the silhouette.
The crystal is adorned with a very rich engraved design accented with gold, inspired by Oriental motifs: birds, animals, lush vegetation, scrolls, and arabesques are intricately rendered across the entire surface with great finesse. The stoppers also feature this delicate gilded decoration.
The necks are accented with gold fillets, adding a beautiful finishing touch to the entire piece.
The Djeddah model perfectly illustrates the decorative expertise of the Baccarat factory in the mid-20th century and reflects the period’s taste for exotic and Oriental-inspired designs.
The inclusion of the two matching decanters, with their matching stoppers, makes this set particularly decorative and appealing to a collector of French crystal.
