Rodolphe Strebelle (Tournai, 1880 – Uccle, 1959)
Student of A. Crespin (1893–1894) and at the Brussels Academy under J. Delville and I. Verheyden (1899–1908).
Hailing from Tournai, his hometown, Rodolphe Strebelle participated in the Brabant Fauvism movement thanks to the artistic training he received at the Brussels Academy, and later at the “Effort” open studio.
He joined the “Nervia” group as a founding member in 1928. He participated in nearly all of the group’s exhibitions.
His summer stays on the North Sea coast provided him with the opportunity to produce numerous watercolors that, with a few elliptical strokes, evoked the cloud-dotted sky, the turbulent sea, and the bustling beach.Strebelle was an excellent watercolorist.
He taught from 1923 to 1949 at the Molenbeek Academy and at La Cambre from 1935 to 1946. His works are held in museums in Antwerp, Liège, Brussels, Ixelles, Mons, and Tournai.
