Miodrag Đorđević (1936) — Abstract Composition with the Golden Eye
Mixed media / oil on cardboard
59 × 43.5 cm

1990s
A powerful abstract composition by Miodrag Đorđević (known as Miodrag), born in 1936.
Mixed media (oil, fluid materials) on cardboard, size 59 × 43.5 cm.Signed “MIODRAG” in the lower right corner.
In the center, a deep blue oval shape encloses a golden core: like an eye, a lake, or a vortex.
Surrounding it are blacks, grays, yellows, greens, and a subtle red.
The texture is highly worked: drips, reserved areas, grainy surfaces, and milky passages. Light plays across the gold and blues: depending on the angle, the piece shifts between lyrical abstraction and apparition.
A decorative work, rich in texture and contrasts. Generous size. Clear signature.Sold unframed.ConditionGood overall condition. Deep colors, rich texture.
Traces of studio work and minor surface irregularities—normal. The reverse is a light-colored cardboard backing with a few drips of studio paint.
Biography—Miodrag Đorđević (Miodrag), born in 1936A Yugoslav/Serbian painter born in 1936 (Aleksinac), Miodrag Đorđević established himself as early as the 1960s as one of Europe’s leading figures in optical art and abstraction.
Exhibitions included shows in Rome, Florence, Paris, Brussels, Dallas, and Miami.Moving beyond geometric Op Art, he explored a variety of periods and media: oil, paper, cardboard, and silkscreen.
Here, the painterly gesture—the golden eye, deep blues, and fluid textures—results in a work that is both decorative and meticulously crafted in its materiality.
