Large Wrought-iron Double-leaf Interior Gate, Circa 1940–1950

A large two-panel wrought-iron interior grille, made around 1940–1950 in a Neo-Rococo style inspired by 18th-century decorative motifs.

The particularly rich composition is arranged symmetrically around an abundant decoration of volutes, scrolls, foliage, and floral motifs. The various decorative elements are crafted from wrought iron and sheet metal that has been worked, cut, and shaped, notably featuring beautiful hanging motifs in the shape of flowers or bellflowers.

The piece was originally enhanced with gilded highlights, still visible in places on the foliage and certain ornaments. The gate has been partially stripped, revealing today an interesting interplay between the weathered brown iron and the remnants of the original gilding.

Mounted on two hinged panels, it retains its side posts and hinge mechanisms. A small central handle allows it to be closed.

Highly decorative, this gate can be used as an interior partition, entryway gate, architectural feature, or wall decoration.
The latch release buttons are new and made of polished brass.

French craftsmanship from the mid-20th century, circa 1940–1950

Condition: generally good structural condition. Oxidation and patina from use. Original gilding partially preserved; the piece has been partially stripped. These marks contribute to the piece’s character and decorative authenticity.
