Very Large "saint-lô" Cross
Very large Saint-Lô cross
A large Saint-Lô cross, complete with its necklace. This piece of jewelry was primarily worn in Lower Normandy. Widespread in the 18th century, this cross continued to be produced into the 19th century. Artisans in the second half of that century, eager to create designs faithful to those of the previous century, painted a small black dot on the back of the stones to give them an older appearance. This detail allows us to date our cross to the second half of the 19th century.
