Icon of the Kazan Mother of God with a repoussé and chased silver oklad (riza) – the Mother of God’s mantle decorated in relief with floral and foliate ornaments; the reverse covered with red velvet.
Hallmarks: 84 zolotniks, with a kokoshnik head turned to the left and the Greek letter “Delta” for Moscow.

Traditionally given as a wedding gift or on the occasion of family blessings, it is protected by a precious-metal riza, or oklad, designed to enhance the painted image while leaving only the faces and hands visible.
Our icon, representative of the great tradition of private devotion during the reign of Nicolas II, is distinguished by the remarkable chasing of its silver oklad and the fine state of preservation of its original velvet backing.
