Pair of lacquered wooden stirrups with side arms (naga-i) openworked with a fruit motif and a wheat ear, respectively. The front panel (hato) is decorated with maki-e lacquer depicting a churning sea. Wide bases (shita) lacquered red.
The distinctive “slipper” or “crescent” shape of these stirrups reflects their practical purpose: they protected the foot from injury and allowed archers (in the Yabusame tradition) to stand firmly and steadily.
