Empire-era "sellette Aux Griffons"

An elegant and rare Empire-period tripod stool made of carved, painted wood and mahogany veneer. It features three griffin legs joined by a wooden crossbar and topped with a black marble slab. Stable and in good condition, with a previous restoration on one leg and a shrink crack in the veneer along the upper rim. The griffin is a legendary mythological creature combining the body and power of a lion with the head and nobility of an eagle.
